First, the word holds a long history: the free lancers were soldiers for hire. A lot of armies were formed this way. A lot o businessmen were freelancers, too. The modern freelancer is not so far from their ancestors – quite often combining several skills in their offerings. So, the freelancer often holds several competencies – and in addition to this, caters for their own business. Hence, the freelancer has to be very active, be good at creting relationships and always be prepared

Is there a future for the freelancer?

Very much so! We at the 2Lance staff see how company after company lay off staff – and ask them to return as freelancers. Some businesses, such as law firms newspapers have run this for a long time. Now follows PR and AD agencies, and soon we will see this in most organizations. What is the driving force behind this? There are several:
